AMSOIL Synthetic Gear Oil

Differentials and gearboxes operate under concentrated pressure where metal surfaces are separated by a very thin lubricant film. AMSOIL synthetic gear lubricants are designed for automotive, truck, RV, powersports, marine and equipment applications.

Why premium gear oil matters

Ring-and-pinion gears can generate high sliding loads and heat, especially while towing or hauling. Synthetic gear oil is designed to maintain a durable lubricating film across a wide temperature range and resist oxidation under severe service.

For RVs, trucks and work vehicles, differential service is easy to overlook because it is not performed as often as an engine-oil change. That makes choosing the correct lubricant and service interval especially important.

Viscosity and limited-slip requirements matter

Common grades include 75W-90 and 75W-140, but the correct grade depends on the axle and manufacturer recommendation. Some limited-slip differentials also have specific friction requirements. Use the lookup before choosing a product.

Protection for more than road vehicles

AMSOIL gear lubricants are also used in many marine, ATV/UTV and equipment applications. The operating environment can include water exposure, shock loading, dust and sustained low-speed torque, so application matching remains essential.

Common questions

What gear-oil viscosity do I need?

Use the vehicle or equipment manufacturer specification and AMSOIL lookup. Do not choose solely based on how heavy the vehicle is.

Is synthetic gear oil good for towing?

Synthetic gear oil is well suited to high-temperature and high-load service when it meets the axle specification.

Do limited-slip differentials need special fluid?

Some do. Confirm whether the specific differential and lubricant require limited-slip friction modification.
